Just Seed bring a bit of colour to Kingsley

A number of years ago the village secured funding to place a number of planter barrels throughout the village.

Many are currently maintained by residents who live nearby to the barrels which provide a splash of colour throughout the year.

The hall hopes in the coming months to see if it’s possible to secure funding to replace those barrels that are past their best.

However, in the meantime thanks to Nick and the team at Just Seed in Wrexham (www.justseed.com) each barrel ‘carer’ will be given a mix of seeds for this year.

We are in the process of packaging the seeds up and will then deliver them across the village in the coming days.

A couple of the barrels have not yet been adopted – one on Froghall Bank at the junction with Banks Lane and one on Holt Lane at the junction with Haste Hill Avenue – if you want to help out please do let us know.

Just Seed have also supplied seeds to enable sections of the recreation ground that are being left uncut this year to be planted with a variety of wildflowers.

Both are sure to be popular so please order as soon as you can.

Easter Breakfast – the best one yet

The hall’s committee would like to thank everyone that came to the breakfast on Saturday 15th April.

It was by far the best one we have done at Easter so far – so nice to see the children with their Easter eggs and a hall full of people.

Nice also, to see old friends and great to make new ones. All in all, we did just short of 70 breakfasts and have raised over £200 towards the upkeep of the hall.

As always we will spend the money wisely improving the building and looking at ways to make these events even better.

Lastly, many happy returns to Steve from Kingsley Holt who had a full English followed by cake and a chorus of Happy Birthday.

Next Sunday see’s the World War One project launching its book – fingers crossed there is a big splash in the Stunner on Wednesday and we look forward to another hall full of people.

Until then, enjoy the rest of your Easter weekend

Councillors Fund Hall

Churnet Ward District Councillors Elsie Fallows and Ivor Lucas have each donated £100 from their Community Initiative Fund to Kingsley Village Hall.

Councillor Fallows’ donation has been used to purchase new tablecloths to place on recently sourced banquet tables and will be used in a forthcoming wedding reception, the first held in many years at the hall if not ever.

Councillor Lucas’s donation has been used to purchase a commercial grade toaster and has come at a very opportune moment as the hall’s annual Easter Saturday breakfast event is to be held on Saturday 15th April between 9am and 12 noon.

Said Chair of the Trustees  Martyn Hordern ‘ we are delighted and very grateful that Elsie and Ivor have been able to assist us’ he added  ‘the money will be put to good use and will enhance the hall’s facilities and capability’

The Easter breakfast has fast become a fixture in the village with volunteers doing the cooking and washing up whilst the community has a great breakfast and meets up with old friends and makes new one in the heart of the village.

This year a children’s breakfast includes an Easter gift and costs £3.50. An adult’s breakfast costs £3.50 if purchased in advance which is recommended as it helps the hall to cater properly.

To get tickets for the event visit the event page on this web site, or contact Martyn Hordern on 01538 750657.

Breakfast with Santa / Lights Event Success

cvp_8159Just a few words to say how thrilled we were that Breakfast with Santa went so well yesterday, and of course after such a great night on Friday at the Lights. The lights will be on at the hall every night from 5pm to 11pm.

We did over 70 breakfasts and had 28 children coming to see Santa. We are of course sorry we had to disappoint some people who wanted to come and especially the children.

We feel that we can accommodate more next time with an even spread across the morning. We are already planning how to make it event better next year.

We would like to thank Mrs Claus who gave Santa the morning off to come to make all the children smile, also for allowing Holly the Elf one of Santa’s Helpers to come along as well.

Whilst the smiles of the children were priceless the biggest smile of the day award went to ‘young’ George Mason who won Guess the Weight of the Cake with the last guest (2 ounces within the actual weight)!

We would also like to thank Mark Mason from Creative Photography who captured the spirit of the day and to Barbara and Jean who baked cakes to sell and the Christmas cake respectively.

We would also like to thank Dianne Lucas who made and donated two hanging baskets which we sold to raise funds for the hall.

We are in the process of contacting the winners of the various raffle prizes. Winner of the hamper was Hayley. Also, we have one winner without a contact number – if Dawn Chadwick follows the page or anyone knows Dawn please get in touch with us.

Lastly, a big thank you to the hall’s committee who worked really hard on the day (as well as baking mince pies in the week) to make it such a success! We are already planning our next event so watch this space!
